KELLWOOD - CITY BLUES
A new label, born in the city
Kellwood is the American apparel company behind Democracy and Wit & Wisdom. In 2024 it set out to build City Blues, an urban-inspired women's fashion line pairing premium craftsmanship with attainable price points for the modern, budget-conscious shopper it was chasing.
Ruckus was engaged to take City Blues from business plan to market: brand story and positioning, visual identity and guidelines, the ecommerce experience, the launch marketing engine, and the studio productions that filled it with imagery from day one of the launch.

A brand from zero, in a saturated market
Fashion is saturated with high-priced designer wear on one end and fast fashion on the other, leaving modern, budget-conscious women without a real option in between. City Blues existed as a business plan and a manufacturing capability; it needed everything else, story, identity, and a storefront included.
Story, identity, storefront, one team
Ruckus built a full brand story program, mission, vision, five pillars, tone of voice, essence, and tagline, then codified the visual identity in 2025 brand guidelines: lockups, an extension mark, color, typography, and packaging touchpoints running from garment tags to shopping bags.
The launch engine followed: a Shopify storefront with six core page designs, paid and organic channel builds across Google, Meta, and TikTok, and an influencer, email, and social program running under one roadmap. A three-day studio production shot 70 to 90 looks for the launch assortment alone.
Live in market, and covered by the trade press
City Blues launched in 2025 at cityblues.com, with the Ruckus-written strategy running word for word: the brand essence leads the welcome line and the mission statement anchors the story page. WWD introduced City Blues to the industry at launch, and the partnership continues through a 12-month marketing engagement.
