01The Client

The guide in their hand

City Guide is New York City's longest-running visitor media brand, published by Davler Media Group and reaching millions of visitors a year through its magazine, City Map, cityguideny.com, and a network of more than a thousand hotel concierges.

Ruckus was engaged as City Guide's brand and marketing partner, building the brand foundation, sharpening positioning, and designing the strategy and sales tools to bring it to market.

02The Challenge

Judged by a scoreboard it was never built to win

City Guide's real influence, print, concierge, and in-market presence, was being measured against click-based return on ad spend, a metric that ignores offline influence and undercredits where City Guide is strongest. The brand had the reach and the relationships, but not a modern identity that made its value obvious.

03The Work

Guiding discoveries, in print and beyond

Ruckus built four brand pillars, dynamic, essential, exclusive, and quality, then rewrote City Guide's positioning around guiding visitors to experiences and guiding businesses to the visitors who matter most. A new visual system paired a confident navy with fresh green and coral.

An integrated marketing strategy reframed the category around influence over impressions, backed by a four-part video concept, a redesigned brochure, and a story-driven media kit sales reps could walk a client through in thirty minutes.

04The Outcome

From media seller to modern brand

Ruckus delivered City Guide's first modern brand foundation, pillars, a positioning line, and a full visual identity, plus an integrated strategy and sales system that sell influence over impressions. The engagement has run multiple years, still shaping how City Guide shows up and sells today.
