01The Client

A serene escape in downtown New York

The Artezen is a boutique hotel in the heart of downtown New York City, built as a quiet, artful counterpoint to the city just outside its doors. It offers a serene, zen-like escape from the hustle and bustle of the crowds.

02The Challenge

A distinct identity, informed by artists

Ruckus was asked to create a distinct identity for the bespoke hotel, informed by specialty artists. Brushstrokes and canvas were worked into every aspect of the design, down to the smallest detail, and the rooftop restaurant and bar took on its own signature as The Studio.

03The Mark

One letter, drawn like a brushstroke

The identity turns on a single calligraphic A, a gesture where art meets zen. Its sweeping tail carries the brushstroke motif through the wordmark and out across every surface of the hotel, held to one monochrome palette of ink, canvas white, and brushed silver from the front desk to the guest room.

04The Studio

The rooftop, reframed as The Studio

The rooftop restaurant and bar became The Studio, a signature within the identity given its own script and carried onto glass signage and matchbooks while staying unmistakably part of The Artezen. The same monochrome language extends to keycards, wayfinding, and a full in-room amenity line of cleanser, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion.
