INDIKITCH
Fire up the flavor
IndiKitch, The Indian Kitchen, was launched to bring Indian cuisine to the masses, with taste, quality, and value non-negotiable. From its first fast-casual kitchens in New York, the brand set an ambitious course, growing from two local restaurants to a 20-plus location nationwide rollout.
Ruckus served as full-service agency of record for the rapidly expanding chain, charged with bringing authentic, quality Indian food to a mainstream audience. To communicate the brand promise, the studio developed an identity as bold as the flavors in the cuisine, spanning research and strategy, brand identity, packaging, website design and development, and marketing campaigns.

Menu intimidation, two audiences
Indian cuisine is still emerging in the US market, commanding deep loyalty among foodies while remaining unfamiliar territory for the average fast-casual diner deciding where to eat lunch. Unfamiliar dish names and sauce selections created a barrier at the counter, even though every underlying ingredient was already in the American pantry. The visual identity needed to communicate to newcomers and foodies alike, welcoming to one, authentic and credible to the other.

Rooted in Warli
To make the brand feel as authentic as the food, Ruckus rooted the illustration system in Warli, a centuries-old tribal art tradition from Maharashtra, India. Painted by the Warli people in white rice-paste pigment on earthen walls, the style builds whole scenes of village life from simple geometry, circles, triangles, and lines.
Working in that same spirit, Ruckus designers sketched every ingredient by hand, every chicken, chili, onion, and coconut, translating Warli's white-on-earth geometry into a library of more than one hundred original illustrations. A spice-counter palette anchored in vivid raspberry red, charcoal, and warm neutrals, a hand-lettered display voice, and codified 2018 brand guidelines governed every application from the logotype to the to-go bag.
Every dish becomes a story anyone can order
Demystifying the menu came first. In-store boards pair appetizing food photography with phonetic pronunciations and hand-drawn ingredient maps, tracing chicken tikka back to onion, yogurt, ginger, and yellow spices, so newcomers can order with confidence and foodies see the craft behind every sauce.
The identity carries through every inch of the space and everything a guest touches. Hot cups, to-go bags, and chai garam boxes carry the illustration library and the brand's bold raspberry stripe out into the city, while flag banners over the line spotlight made-from-scratch sauces, kati rolls, and feasts, and illustrated standees turn waiting in line into storytelling. Out front, the storefront window wears the illustrations over the promise that anchors it all: authentically made from scratch.
An emerging cuisine, made impossible to resist
As full-service agency of record, Ruckus carried the brand across five service lines, from brand guidelines to wall murals, store boards, and packaging, through a nationwide rollout that grew from two locations to more than twenty. The library of hand-drawn, Warli-inspired illustrations gave the brand a handmade warmth no stock artwork could match, carried into every new kitchen that opens.
